He assured that the party has what it takes to uplift the country despite its past mistakes.
The National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan, revealed that the party is remorseful for allowing its failure herald the emergence of the ruling All Progressives’ Congress (APC).
While speaking during an appearance on Channels Television on Monday, March 26, 2018, Ologbondiyan reacted to the position of party Chairman, Uche Secondus, who had tendered an unreserved apology to Nigerians for not living up to expectations in the 16 years it ruled before it lost the 2015 presidential election to President Muhammadu Buhari‘s APC.
During the party’s town hall event tagged ‘Nation Building:Resetting The Agenda’ in Abuja on Monday, Secondus said, “The PDP was in power for 16 years and as expected, we made mistakes. We are sorry for our mistakes and when we return, we shall make this country better. We have experience, no other party has it.”
While speaking later on Monday, Ologbondiyan said the party is upset that its failure allowed the APC to swoop in and make a mess of governance in the country.
He said, “Our apology has to do with the fact that we allowed a movement that has no structure to take over the governance of this nation and push Nigerians to a situation of hunger and starvation and to a pathetic situation, so much that the world is contemplating how they can help us. That is the essence of our apology.”
He also assured that the party has what it takes to uplift the country despite its past mistakes.
“The PDP is the most mature and experienced party. We have seen it all, we have made mistakes in the past but we have come anew. Our party has started a new life,” he said.
During the town hall event on Monday, the PDP made it clear that it is ready to hand over the party’s future to young people who are committed to driving the country into the future.
