Creative Director Adenike Adegboye is one of the five finalists for Lagos Fashion Week's Fashion Focus and we can see why!
As the landscape of the Nigerian fashion industry constantly evolves, we are always on the look out for emerging designers and talents and Demure by Denike ticks every box. The emerging label has caught the eye of the Lagos Fashion Week organisers and Creative Director, Adenike Adegboye, has been chosen as one of the fashion focus finalists and we can see why!
The Fashion Focus initiative was created to empower fashion designers and give them the tools, resources and the support to follow their dreams.
One of the five finalists of this year's Fashion Focus is Demure by Denike.
Demure by Denike is a womenswear brand which makes use of traditional African fabrics and techniques mixed with contemporary fabrics and a youthful twist.
The label was founded in 2016 by Adenike Adegboye who has amassed quite a following on Instagram due to her creative work. Adenike, a stylista in her own right, describes her label as 'traditional yet modern'.
Demure by Denike is striking, not only because of the deliberate use of colour but also because it is unapologetically African. From the fabrics to the, creative direction, being black and being an African is front and centre of everything the label does. This is evident from the label's debut collection and lookbook. They said, 'the juxtaposition of traditional tie dye (adire) techniques and contemporary fabrics is something we're excited about. Creating a fun and trendy way to wear Yoruba culture and heritage.'
The first collection is promising and we cannot wait to see the heights this fashion label scales with the help of the Lagos Fashion Week team.
