David Moyes Speaks On His Future As West Ham Manager

David Moyes hinted his preference was to stay at West Ham after a 3-1 win over Everton on Sunday.

David Moyes, appointed in November as successor to Slaven Bilic, steered West Ham to Premier League safety in a campaign capped by two goals from Manuel Lanzini and Marko Arnautovic’s 11th of the league season.

Moyes said: “Everybody always thinks the grass is greener and there’s something better out there. I would say more often than not I bet you it’s proved wrong.

“We’ve shown we’re trying to improve. I don’t know if anybody can come and make that big a difference in six months. Even (Man City boss) Pep [Guardiola] took a bit of time to get his team right.

“I’d think you’d need to give a bit longer. But every manager now is in transit. I don’t think there is a long period (to settle in).”

Asked when his West Ham contract officially expires, Moyes said: “Midnight, I think. I’ll take my suit off at midnight okay, undo my tie a little bit…be back on the streets come midnight!”

West Ham remain interested in the likes of Manuel Pellgrini, Rafa Benitez, Sean Dyche and even Unai Emery, while there have been growing suggestions that Moyes is unhappy with the budget that would be on offer and the public way in which the club operates.

But when questioned on whether or not he could now categorically state if he wants the West Ham job, Moyes said: “I can’t because I’m no further forward. We will meet and talk I think this week. We’ve not arranged a date, not arranged a time.

“Look, whatever way it comes around, we have – and I say we because I mean my staff, Alan Irvine, (Stuart) Pearcey and Billy (McKinlay), they are all with me in the same situation – played well, improved from the start of the season no end. We really have.”
